Local secret scanning reports files outside the outgoing branch
Source: Troubleshooting reference
Symptom: The local push gate reports archived transcript paths that do not exist in the outgoing branch, while hosted CI sees no corresponding files.
Root cause: Gitleaks defaults to scanning all local refs. An independent validation clone can also contain unrelated checkpoint branches; tool names in those transcripts can resemble credential formats.
Confirm: Inspect the redacted finding’s commit and run
git for-each-ref --contains COMMIT --format='%(refname)'. Do not print raw
matches or assume every finding is a false positive.
Fix: The shared quality command uses gitleaks git --log-opts=HEAD to scan
the outgoing commit and its full history. It does not bypass secret checks or
ignore credentials removed from earlier commits in that history.
